No — it's a desktop-style web app that runs inside your browser tab. You get windows, a taskbar, a virtual filesystem, and 50+ apps, but it doesn't replace your real operating system.

How do apps run inside the OS?

Each app's own index.html is loaded inside a sandboxed iframe by the OS window manager. The app sees the same DOM it would on its own URL — it just lives in a movable, resizable window. Sensitive features (microphone, camera) require the same permission grants as standalone use.

Where are my files stored?

In an IndexedDB-backed virtual filesystem scoped to joeheyming.github.io. Notepad, Code IDE, Paint, and File Manager all read/write the same tree. Nothing is uploaded; clearing site data deletes everything.

Can I install Heyming OS?

Yes — it's a Progressive Web App. On Chrome/Edge, the address bar shows an Install button; on iOS Safari, use 'Add to Home Screen'. The installed app launches in standalone mode without browser chrome.

What is 'Open with'?

When you double-click a file in File Manager (or use the OS's open-with picker), the file's MIME type is dispatched through a registry: text/* → Notepad, image/* → Image Viewer, audio/video → Media Player, .glb/.stl → 3D Viewer, .pdf → media-player's PDF mode, and so on.
