What filesystem am I browsing?

The Heyming OS virtual filesystem — an IndexedDB-backed tree that lives in your browser. Apps like Notepad, Code IDE, and Paint write to it; File Manager browses the same tree. It's not your real OS filesystem; nothing here can read your hard drive.

How does 'Open with' work?

Each file's MIME type is dispatched through Heyming OS's mime-handlers registry: text/* opens in Notepad, image/* in Image Viewer, audio/* and video/* in Media Player, and so on. The handler list is shared across all OS apps.

Can I drag a file in from disk?

Accepted Answer

Yes — drag-and-drop a file from your desktop and it's copied into the virtual filesystem. The original on disk is untouched. Paste from the clipboard also works.

Are my files private?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Files live in your browser's IndexedDB scoped to joeheyming.github.io. They're never uploaded; clearing site data deletes them.
